Introduction

CD-ROM has enjoyed explosive growth and acceptance in the past few years. Information Publishers and Corporations have come to rely on this medium to distribute large volumes of data to end-users. This information, whether it is a corporate database, operating system software, or the latest multimedia education title is expected to be 100% error free from the first time the disc is read until the data is obsolete. Recently, there have been some media reports questioning the reliability of CD-ROM media for long-term data retention.
